Back in February of this year I wrote a post about Technology_and_The_Upward_Slippery_Slope where I talked about being on the Technology Escalator. Once your on it seems as though you can never get off.
It seems as if it was a self fulfilling prophecy because a few days back on April the 12th I wrote another post Deal_or_No_Deal about buying a Laptop Computer and asking the question " Did I Wimp Out ?" or did I get a Good Deal or No Deal.
I had just dropped my Wife at my Daughters home for a barbecue that we had planned for over a week. Even with all that advanced notice and planning someone had forgotten to buy the BBQ sauce. So I was off to do the honors. On the way back to my Daughters the phone rings. It's a Buyer client calling about a home that they had seen only moments ago.
These Clients Peter and Jessie had found the Home on my Buyers_Web_Site for Portland Oregon Real Estate. Now here is the fun part. I have never met these buyers. I had received a Sign Call on a Home_for_Sale ( my Listing ) in the Alberta Arts District of Portland. After a few short minutes of conversation we determined the home was too much of a Fixer for them.
I asked them how they had found the house? They said by driving around and looking on a few Realtors sites. I told them that there was almost no way they would ever buy a house that way. I asked Do you want to know why? Of course they wanted to know why. I pointed out that my House_Hunt_Portland web site was sending all the buyers the new listings within 20 minutes of entering the mls 24/7. Further more the listing information included Photos, full descriptions and the address. That night I noticed that they had signed up for the site (after all its Free ).
After only a short week here they were on the phone as I made my way back to my daughters house. I told them I would need a few minutes as I was in the car but would call them back in 15 minutes or less. As soon as I put the BBQ sauce on the table I Grabbed my Laptop purchased back on the 12th. Within 5 minutes I had the Listing on screen in front of me and was back on the phone talking with Peter and Jessie.
The appointment went very well and after 15 or 20 minutes of conversation they decided to write a more than full price offer. Once again I pulled out my trusty New Toshiba Laptop and had everything done up in short order. The offer is to be presented to the Seller tomorrow morning. I understand that there is at least one other offer but I feel pretty confident as they have written a very aggressive offer.
The speed at which I was able to meet their needs through the use of this Technology on This Upwards Slippery Slope had Impressed my New Clients and they have promised to send me several referrals.
When last I asked in my post about the Laptop rather it was a Deal or NO Deal. Everyone had commented that it was a Good Deal. I agree!

I am on my third Toshiba. I love the company, they even have a guarantee you can upgrade to that covers dropping it in the bathtub, although that is one thing that hasn't happened to one of mine. Having been in real estate 6 years, the only reason I am on my third is I have upgraded. My first went to my son's aunt who is in real estate and my next one to my teen.
About that guarantee, when I started real estate I was a foster parent so having many kids in and out, I thought it could get damaged. Well, I was right, but it wasn't foster kids, it was mine I was adopting. My little ones, got the computer off the dining room table, took it to living floor, opened it, and popped off the keys and striped the membrane from under them. They have never done anything that devastating since. While I think they stretched the warranty, they did fix it free for me. And then there is the time someone threw the roll of paper towels, and forgot the stand was attached and took out the screen. And that was fixed as well.
Technology I love!!! I love having all the listings updated on my palm daily. I love doing an awesome listing presentation on my laptop with a customized power point show. Or making a DVD or CD for my listings to hand out. Welcome to the Technology Era, isn't it great to be able to serve customers so well without having to run to the office or more?
Many years ago, when we only had rare, espensive and temperatmental fax machines and expensive long distance added to super slow desktops and Internet, Wyoming real estate people in Casper dreamed of having a home in the beautiful Sierra Madre mountains and telecommuting. Now,they could do it.
Or, as you do, show listings and get information. It wasn't long before a vehicle could have a printer, fax and laptop all ready to use.
I'm shopping, either for expansion of the present laptop or a new bigger work horse. Even today, the important tools of my office could go into a suitcase and I can work for clients from anywhere.
Palm and cell phone connections are other remarkable and useful tools. Remember on an escalator, you just hold on enough to maintain balance and RIDE! No slippery.
